Paul Glennon, Associate Dean (Student Experience), Birmingham City University (FE in
an HE context)
Carolyn Medlin has been supporting our Faculty of Art & Design (one of the largest providers for A&D Education FE/HE, outside of London) for the last two years. She has delivered effective workshops to all our FE staff on a range of topics such as Equality & Diversity to Self-Assessment. Even though her background subject is not Art & Design, she has been exceptional in her support. Proof of this is that in our last Inspection (May 2012) we moved from Satisfactory to Good – her training helped us achieve this grade.
Carolyn has been able to tailor sessions to all of our FE staff and to smaller teams of senior management. At the end of these sessions (and afterwards) the comments back are always glowing and very complimentary. To me, as an Associate Dean who oversees the FE provision, she has given exemplary one to one advice on elements such as Quality Improvement Plans (QIP). In relation to that I am sure that key modifications to our QIP actually helped us with our Ofsted Inspection.
I have no hesitation in recommending Carolyn to you.
Lindsay Jardine, Director of Operations, Kent Association of Training Providers (Work-based Learning)
KATO worked with Carolyn (Fairfield Associates Limited) to develop a Quality Improvement and Self Assessment tool as part of our Peer Review Group. Working with Carolyn was a great experience, her knowledge of the sector, OFSTED and CIF enabled us to create a robust, useful tool to share with all providers throughout our network, including leads and subcontractors. Carolyn brought out the best of the PRD group, challenging when appropriate and supportive, with clear understanding of the requirements of the project. I would recommend working with Carolyn as an associate and am looking forward to our next project together.
Stella Tams, Quality Improvement, Gloucestershire County Council (Adult and Community Learning)
Carolyn Medlin has been working with Adult Education in Gloucestershire on a consultancy basis. She gave us invaluable support pre and post our OFSTED inspection (February 2012) and has helped us develop new strategies and policies to enable us to improve our quality across not only our own delivery but also our sub-contracted provision. She has been involved in our SAR process both in the review last year and in producing the new SAR for this year. All staff greatly appreciate Carolyn’s input and in particular the role she played during our OFSTED inspection where she co-ordinated all of the feedback across the organisation.
Carolyn’s help has been invaluable in driving our organisation forward and recognising all areas requiring improvement and developing operational and strategic mechanisms for implementing change and development. In our most recent Ofsted inspection (January 2014) we were graded ‘Good’ with ‘Outstanding’ in Visual Arts. Carolyn’s contribution to our development and improvement was evident throughout all of the processes we currently use and also in how we managed during the Inspection. Her understanding of Community Learning in the context in which we work was invaluable in the structuring and implementation of the quality assurance and improvement measures we used, which helped us achieve this very positive outcome.
